Hi, We have a customer who has a SW800 with 100GB data disk using HSZ40 in a SCSI Cluster environment. The customers want to migrate to CI Clustering which means that we need to migrate the HSZ40 to HSJ50. I have a few question here that need the storageWorks expert/guru for an answer: 1. It is possible for me to migrate the HSZ40 to HSJ50 without reconfigure the system or initialize the disk ? Would prefer to keep the data disk. 2. Does StorageWorks do qualify for such migration ? 3. Is there any reference sites that do have such kind of setup? 4. Do the StorageWorks team has any guide lines or step how we should do the migration if possible and do we need to do a backup of the data before the migration ? 5. Do we have any material or whitepaper that states that such migration is possible ? Please advise.

6552.1 | Yup we test moving between platforms the code is the same! | SSDEVO::RMCLEAN | Mon Apr 07 1997 10:57 | 16
The disks on ALL HSx series are of the same format so you will have no problem moving them from a HSZ40 to HSJ50. We do state somewhere that the disks are compatable between systems. This is an unusual direction since most sites are moving from J's to Z's but since there is no difference in the disk formats you will not have any problems. It never hurts to do a backup before doing such a change. It should not be necessary but whenever you are doing such a massive change it is a good idea since you are basically changing the whole I/O subsystem. You will have to re-create the configuration in the HSJ50 so it looks like the HSZ40 and that is generally a manual task. I doubt you will find a reference site for this direction of move since I believe it is rare to go from scsi to ci.
6552.2 | Reported geometry different on storagesets on HSJ vs. HSZ | SSDEVO::JACKSON | Jim Jackson | Mon Apr 07 1997 12:13 | 4 |
Be aware that the reported geometry for stripesets and raidsets differs between HSZ and HSJ. Your file system may or may not care. Once upon a time an ANALYZE/DISK/REPAIR on VMS would make the necessary changes to the filesystem; you should double-check this before proceeding. |
