6548.0. "DLT-loader in Retma, again !!" by STKAI1::JOERIKSSON (Joel Eriksson @SUV ) Fri Apr 04 1997 09:09

    Hi,

    A customer wants to buy a DLT loader to his Retma rack !
    After reading 5586 I know it works for TZ885. What about
    the others ? If you have any input please reply !!

              Retma / Drive version Metric / Drive version

    TZ875             ?                           ?
    TZ877          TZ877-NE *                 TZ877-NE *
    TZ885             ?                           ?
    TZ887             ?                           ?

       * Universal Mounting kit included

    Another rack problem : I know that some Compac rack is deeper, so
                           the drive will hang in the front OR rear
                           brackets ( not both ). Is there some kind
                           of extender for that ?

    Joel,

    The TZ8x7's all use the same mounting brackets. This is the same
    mounting rail that was used in the SF400 for TF8x7 tapes. (Not
    surprising since the SF400 and SW800 cabinets use the same frame.)
    These rails can also be used in the older SF200, SA600, SA650, SA800,
    SA850, and SA900. These are RETMA cabinets. In ALL cases (SW800 and
    the older RETMA cabinets) the distance from the inside of the front
    vertical cabinet rail to the inside of the rear vertical cabinet rail
    is the same. What varies between all these cabinets is the distance
    between the side holes and the stagger of these holes. How to explain
    this.... let me try an EDT picture:

        +-------+      -                    +-------+
        |       |      |<- stagger          |       |
        |       +-------             -------+       |
        |           ^                   ^           |
                    |<---- this ------->|
    			   distance

        +----------+                     +----------+
        |          |                     |          |
        |          |                     |          |
        |          +-------       -------+          |
                       ^             ^              ^
                       |<-- versus ->|               \
    			    this                      use this rail

    	NOTE: This is NOT to scale

    If you've ever used a BA35X-RB kit to mount a BA350 or BA356 you will
    see this stagger as two sets of holes in two different planes. One
    set is for the HSC family and the OLD SA6x0/SA8x0 cabinets while the
    other is for the SA900 RETMA pattern. The -RB kit has been used with
    other RETMA cabinets but I designed it specifically for those cabinets.
    (Initially for HSC's, then we did the SA900 rail stagger hole pattern.
    At the time of design, we thought we might offer the BA350 as a field
    upgrade in SA900's. That's going back a few years....)

    Anyhow, if the distance from the front rail to the rear rail is
    "normal" the mounting kit for the TZ8x7's will work.

    I just don't know the TZ8x5's well enough to comment.

    				Bill
