6541.0. "DAT tape label sheets?" by REGENT::HUMMERS () Wed Apr 02 1997 12:57

I have just set up another Networker (NSR) server that has TLZ6Ls as
its prime tape media. Given the number of disks I have and the
probable growth I 'look forward' to the task over several years
of having to write out thousands of little labels and trying to get
them stuck on the correct spots of each DAT tape.

First printing:

I came here looking for a 'mass production' kind of solution,
perhaps a 8.5x11 sheet of pre-cut sheets of labels of a type that
could be put through laser printers or small Ink-Jet printers so
that I could use PostScript, Word, or ...

Is there such a thing? If not perhaps the supplier has such or
would be willing to consider developing them?

That takes care of printing, now how about sticking:

Can I assume that the one piece, TLZ04 type, label was abandoned
because of fear of jamming in the the auto-loaders that were coming
with the (then) new TLZ06? The one piece was one less positioning
per cartridge. Doesn't the two piece label have a similar jamming
problem if they are not properly positioned? Anyway is there
any simple method of afixing these little buggars?

thanks

The one piece label and 2 piece labels came from different tape media
vendors, along with the media. We basically take what comes with the
media, as long as it works. Properly applied, they all work.

Note that the 1 piece labels require cartridges that have been molded
to accept them, so just using them on all cartridges won't work.

Check with Avery or one of the other label vendors for generic DAT
    labels for printing....

Well, I struck out with Avery although they may consider (felt like
a pat on the head to me) it as a future product and I don't need 5000
sheets (see enclosed) but I will call their custom department for some
    pricing.

Does anyone have another label vendor(s) or perhaps the vendor(s) of the
tape so I can ask them who the label vendor is?

    thanks

Dear Mr. Hummers:

We apologize for the delay in the response to your question
and for any inconvenience you may have experienced.
Thank you for your interest in Avery's products. Avery does
not currently make the label you are requesting as a stock
item. We have received many requests for the product recently
and I will add your request to our database of new product
ideas/requests.

Avery's Information Systems Division's Custom Department is
able to custom manufacture the label product you have
specified. Their telephone number, which is in Buffalo,
N.Y., is (800)542-8379. They have a 5,000 sheet minimum
order requirement. Thank you again for contacting us.

Sincerely,
Anne Uhlig
