6517.0. "RZ28M-VZ not supported in BA356???" by MEOC02::JANKOWSKI () Wed Mar 26 1997 02:38

I have just read in the Storage Initiative Newsletter (March 24 1997)
that the RZ28M-VZ (which replaces RZ28VW) and RZ26N-VZ (which replaces
RZ26N-VW) are not supported in BA356 enclosure.

    Questions:

    1. What drives are supported in BA356 then?

    2. Generally where do I find this kind of supportability matrix info
    for storage?

    3. How come that this kind of limitation came about? We always boasted
that StorageWorks is about interchangeable building blocks. Now we
have wide drives in SBB that cannot go into a wide shelf designed
specifically to take those SBBs. This will cause loss of credibility
in the eyes of customers I think.

    Regards,

6517.1I believe Rich Lary answered this recently in another thread, but in a nutshell...SUBSYS::VIDIOT::PATENAUDEAsk your boss for ARRAY's...Wed Mar 26 1997 08:148
The RZ28M-VZ is supported in BA356's, just not the BA356 stand alone pedestal.
If the shelf is ion a storage cabinet, all is well. This is for FCC reasons and
NOT because it does not work, it works just fine.

    Hey Roger,

     There's NO SUCH thing as an RZ28M-VZ! It's a DS-RZ28M-VZ....! (Which
you or Kevin need to add to your "IPMT ownership" list - come to think
    of it!)

What Roger says is accurate - the -VZ's are not supported in pedestals
at this time. When we get the rev B01 BA356-KC/KD out to the field the
-VZ's will be allowed. (A change in the BA356 fixes the problem with
the -VZ.) There is supposed to be a Sales Update posted when this
happens. Planned ship date for B01 is late April.

Re. .1 and .2 - thanks for prompt explanation. I understand and it all
    make sense.

    Re. question 3 in .0.
What I am looking for is something to help me configure storage - all
    those dependencies etc.
Eg. in the systems arena I have those excellent Supported Options
tables published on our external web site - www.digital.com.
So for systems I can do this even on a customer site.
But I found that there is very little of this type of information i
available for storage (or more likely I do not know about it.)
This info must be somewhere especially now when we sell so much
    of our storage through channels.

    Thanks and regards,
