I've been through this conference and a walk through the other sources via AltaVista. What I have not been able to find is the correct pin out listing for a RZ28C in the common brick enclosure. I want to use the disk without the plastic enclosure. All of the RZ28C listings that I have found put the SCSI ID pins at one end of the jumper set (J4). For this disk (Seagate Barracuda), that's incorrect. The SCSI id pins are in the middle.

That's because the RZ29B also uses J4 for ID - and in the case of the RZ29B the pins are at the end. J4 is on the "mud flap" near the power connector. [This is our (from an SBB perspective) only narrow drive with this position for the ID connector.] The RZ28C is equivalent to the RZ28D, which is Seagate's ST32550N (for narrow) disk drive. J4 is at the opposite end of the drive from the power and the SCSI connector. Pins 7 and 8 are for the 0-1 bit, pins 9 and 10 are for 0-2, and pins 11 and 12 are for the 0-4 bit. [How do I know this? I've a copy of the booklet that Seagate ships with the drive.] I suspect that if you look under RZ28D, you may find an official jumper note! Bill

Look at my page at http://whatsa.shr.dec.com and follow through to the disk section. There I have a link to Seagate's install guides in PDF format. Pull the ST32550N and you have what Bill has in his hand. roger.
