6508.0. "More questions !Personality mods/2X fans" by MAASUP::TURRO (Make it so number 1) Mon Mar 24 1997 16:08

Are there temperature problems if installing RZ29-xx in a
BA350-xx without the 2X fans,ie can u only install so many RZ29s per
shelf without the 2X fans. Or is that strictly verboten?

Ie cooling issues this would also apply to SW800,SW500,SW300 cabinets.

I have a customer that has LEDS on all of his 8 bit personality
modules. Some have both on (most) some have 1 on!

A precise meaning to the light status on the 8 bit & 16 bit personality
    mods would be helpful.

Also criteria for installing internal cabinet fans in the above
cabinets would be very helpful..With part numbers if you have em!!!
IE at what point must the Cabinet fans be installed ????

    Thanks

    Mike,

see earlier note for LED meaning....

When one has 7200 RPM drives in Storageworks, there are specific rules
    about cooling.

    1) In a pedestal application, dual speed blowers are required along
with foam blocks to stop recirculation.

    2) In a cabinet (SW500/SW800) the fan tray assembly is required. (DUAL
    SPEED BLOWERS ARE NOT REQUIRED.)

    3) All SW300 and BA356's shipped with dual speed blowers. Late model
BA350's shipped with dual speed blowers.

    4) Early BA350's CANNOT use the dual speed blower since the backplane
does not include the "Dual speed line." (Backplane rev F is not
    upgradeable, rev H is required.)

    5) Quantity of drives per shelf is NOT an issue. Each SBB is allocated
so much airflow. The old blower CANNOT supply enough airflow to the
individual SBB in a fan failed condition to adequately cool the drive
(only the 7200 RPM drives) inside the SBB. So even one drive in the
BA350 can have a problem. [Interesting enough, one drive is the WORSE
    CASE condition.]

The number of drives per shelf limitation is related to power not
cooling. (BA35X-HF is required for 7 drives.)
