6488.0. "RZ28M fw 0744 what does it correct ?" by PRSSOS::FONDI () Tue Mar 18 1997 12:00

        Hi men,

before I raise an IPMT

1)What does correct firmware 0744 on the RZ28M , that you may find on

   SUBSYS::LCA:[SPECS.DISK.RZ2X.FIRMWARE]RZ28M_DEC_0744.LOD;1

2)is it mandatory?

currently i am facing with 6 RZ28M in internal shelf of an AS2100 with KZPAA,
all 6 are used for an Oracle db.
When big activity RZ28M (at fw 616) usually with high SCSI 4,5 or 6 "goes"
in Mount verify timeout , (before in errlog i see command transmission failure)
customer runs VMS V6.2 , with ALPSCSI02_070, ALPF11X03_070 and ALPSYS08_070
patches installed, its can't acces any more this database up to...
the customer unplugs and replugs the faulting drive (that has the green
led steady lighted) and so he can remount it under VMS and the work on his
database continues with no error !?!.

     thank you

Command Transmission Failure means the the port driver could not even get the
I/O started. Not to be confused with a Command Timeout were the device never
completed the request. You probably have either a severe BUS problem (missing
terminator, etc,,,) or more likely a port driver problem. Do not log the IPMT
against the drive, not a drive issue.

Barely nothing. It changes the way the drive responds to a test unit ready while
in delayed spin mode.

I will be putting out an anouncement blitz.

Did you see an FCO? No. Because it is phase in ECO only to the repair loop.
