6481.0. "AS8400 with LONNGGG hose 17-03085-03 3.80m" by JOBURG::HARRIS () Mon Mar 17 1997 10:56

I have a client who would like to install 2 x kzpsc's in his AS8400 but put the
disks in a SW800 standing next to the system.

He has been offered the following two solutions.

1. Each of the six (3 on each KZPSC) scsi busses has a DWZZB-AB connected
(Standing on the floor) and on the other end of the BN21K a DWZZB-VW (With a
loss of 6 x 1 SABB slot)

2. Move the DWLPB to the bottom of the SW800 cabinet with the help of a
17-03085-03 3.80m HOSE cable.

With regard to solution 1, I have asked the client not to consider this for the
reasons stated.

With regards to solution 2, will there be a problem with timimg of the Hose
cable? though technically speaking it should work, is it supported? (My client
does not want the expense of purchasing an Expansion cabinet for the AS8400)

What alternative does he have.

He currently has an HSZ40 and has been led to believe that this is a dead horse
and the KZPSC's will perform well in comparison.

(OS is OpenVMS)

Any comments?
Regards Ivan

Why on earth would he think the HSZ40 is a dead horse. If he want's
the latest and greatest just upgrade the 40 to a 50. Personally I
wouldn't use the DWZZB's but that me.

Come to think of it why wouldn't you put the storage shelfs in the
8400. If you aren't using too many drives you could split the shelfs.

    Hello JP
RE: Why on earth would he think the HSZ40 is a dead horse.

Tell me more, I would like to see some io performance of the KZPSC. I
found the HSZ40 and HSZ50 comparisons. Personally I like the Option of
having the HS controller redundancy, P/S redundancy, ETC. And maybe
soon the ability to have the two (Redundant HSZ) Controllers connected
    to Different SCSI FWD controllers.

As far as using the System Space for BA356's in BA66x's...Unfortunately
this system also has an XMI bus with the DWLMA in the sys cab. Later as
the DSSI's are removed, this will dissapear

Any Pointer to KZPSC performance will be appreciated.

    Regards Ivan
