6475.0. "Any year 2000 (Y2K) issues???" by PMESD::FRASER () Thu Mar 13 1997 20:13

We in the Government space are getting many customer questions
around the year 2000 and how our hardware and operating systems will be
affected by Jan 1, 2000. In looking at the various Y2k notes files
we seem to have a handle on the OS and just recently the layered
products. Now I have been asked about the firmware code within the
HSC. Will it rollover without a problem? These same customers are
still using RA60/RM05 and want to know if there is anything within the
hardware that might fail on Jan 1st. Finally while not a specific
question, I have heard others ask if there are any Y2K issues within
the entire Storage Architecture such as time tagging of data by the
    architecture. Can anyone help?

I looked at our HSJ/HSD/HSZ controllers a few months ago and determined that
they do not appear to have any Y2K problems. I did not look at an HSC
controller (I was in SHR, and frankly didn't know where to find one - we still
have plenty of 'em in CXO, of course). However, the HSC does not perform
arithmetic on time values, so if there are any Y2K problems they should be
limited to "cosmetic" issues (bad dates on errorlogs and console printouts).

Furthermore, we (HSJ/D/Z/x) have a regression test that runs every night
that transitions through various month/day/year "rollovers" starting at
about 1998 and running through about 2005.
