| It's to bad the customer can't wait a few months for a fully supported
product.

6447.2 | Two different products ?? | ANNECY::CHABORD_D | Dominique CHABORD @AEO | Thu Mar 06 1997 05:48 | 11 |
| Hi,
I thought the Ancot bridge name was FSB-8001 and LazerLink III a
product from Applied Concept. Is there a move ?
We tried to work with LazerLink II two years ago. It didn't work at
all for the real world. Is the version III better ?

| We have been working for months to qualify a similar (very) product,
it seems every time we get the vendor to fix one problem, they create
another.
Ancot generally only sells their SCSI link/bridge products OEM because
they do not have the support staff for direct sales. Any idea who the
reseller was, this topic is expected to come up again.
re: other brands to work, I have been through about a dozen vendors, some
advertise product but do not have the design complete, some sell product
but do not have the design complete
This technology is currently high profile and very high demand, drawing
many companies into the market. Unfortunately almost all of these
arrivals are under capitalized and under staffed, most have less than
10 employees.
I do know that one Ancot SCSI/FC product proved to be somewhat
incompatable with the KZPSA.

| re .1
I thought the LazerLink III was fast, narrow, single-ended, SCSI
interface??
If so, it's use with KZPSA/DWZZA will be fraught with dangers as
everytime you 'mess' with the bus you increasing the dangers of timing
problems, skew etc.
so, UNSUPPORTED SUGGESTION - try to keep it simple, no dwzzas, short
cables, relevant adapter (KZPAA?), but recognise the wisdom and
experience in .3

| re: JP Lavigne
Yes, but the product will ship in April. They mentionned
that worst case, thay may ship without Fiber Optics and wait
for our product, I guess next fall. They would prefer to
solve it before though. If you have a target release date,
can you let me know? They will agree to non-disclosure.
re: Dominique Chabord & all.
Yes you are right, They have tried a few and none seems to
work. They are now trying the Applied concept LazerLink III
ACI2003 (Narrow Single Ended), not the Ancot model. I got
mixed up as I only talked to the guy over the phone.
They got it to work on the 2100 system SCSI bus (Narrow SE),
so there must be something wrong with the KZPSA SCSI bus(?).
I am lending them a couple KZPAA to try, but since the final
configuration requires to have 2 systems on each end of the
bus, can we change the KZPAA SCSI ID? I assume all KZPAA
are ID 7 right?
Right now they are using the following starting at the Alpha:
KZPSA-BB
BN21W-0B (Y cable/one terminator)
A cable that came with the fiber adapter (68Pins HD to
50 pins HD) note that the 68 pin connector do not have
pins at the outer edges thus leaving effectively
only 50 pins.
The AC2003s, some fiber optics.
A BA35R-SF (DWZZB and a RZ28D).
Eventually, they will need an other system and an other
BA35R-SF at either ends.
They also tried adding a couple DWZZAs to convert from
wide to narrow without luck.
With the above configuration, the SRM console sees the remote
disk, but a "test" command does not work and causes the system
to "crash" when stopping the test. The test command works on
all other devices.
My question remains, *IF* the KZPAA works, can we put 2 KZPAAs
on the same SCSI bus? Is there any other NCR810 based that
exist with a SCSI ID jumpers/switches?
Thanks
Vince.

6447.6 | Who replaced Kevin Joyce? | ARAFAT::SANDGREN | It's always too early to give up! | Wed Apr 23 1997 11:29 | 6 |
| I had some contacts with Kevin Joyce who was to my understanding Product
Marketing Mgr for the product hinted about in .1 and .3. Unfortunately he seems
to have left the company. Does anybody know who replaced him? I'm very anxious
to get the latest status of this product...
