6432.0. "Out of memory on RCU boot" by NCMAIL::NAGYP (Do more with less,faster....) Thu Feb 27 1997 11:50
I'm looking at a brand new alphaserver 4100 (BA30A-AA)
4 cpu's
2-128mb arrays
Kzpsa
2- rz29b's ( one had FIS open VMS 7.2)
AlphaBios is currently at 5.24-0
SRM is at 3.0-10
The customer would simply like to set up a RAID 1 set (mirroring) the
system disk and the currently unused RZ29. Whenever I attempt to invoke
the Standalone RAID configuration utility, I get a "debug" window at
the top of my graphics monitor with an "out of memory error" message.
My only alternative at this time is to reboot.
Spoke with support, they had me set the parameter "memory_exer" from
"full" to "none" at the console.
This did nothing for me. I also attempted to run the RCU from both the
P000> alphabios
and the
P000> ARC
methods, nothing seems to change my symptom. Any suggestions? Am I out
of memory on the SWXCR?
Other that this little quirk, openvms boots and runs fine. Many future
sales of Rawhide systems could hinge on this one...

6432.1 | 3rd party PCI card culprit | NCMAIL::NAGYP | Do more with less,faster.... | Wed Mar 05 1997 05:37 | 5 |
| The problem was a third party prototype PCi card (that I hadn't realized
was in the system) conflicting somehow on the bus. Removal of this
module resulted in sucessful booting of the RCU.
