This raises a question:
Is there a service within Digital, that does the following:
I enter a package number, for example BA36R-AR, and get back all the parts
this package consists of.
VTX CEO does a good job on this most of the time, but is there another source
available?????
Thank you for tips, tzi

Appix gives BOM's (if you can get access to it)

| Yep,
http:\\techinfo.eng.pko.dec.com and take the "technical info search".
You will require an account with the web page, but then you can
examine the Eng or Mfg BOMs for any option.

6429.4 | But, what's the difference between BA356-JC and BA36R-AR? | OHFSS1::FULLER | Never confuse a memo with reality | Thu Feb 27 1997 07:17 | 14 |
| Let me restate the question in other terms.
I've spoken with the people in the MCX library, and they hvae sent me
the BOMs for the BA356-JC and BA36R-AR. Well, I have a list of part
numbers and a list of very abbreviated descriptions, as well as a
discrepancy with information listed in VTX CEO.
What I'm looking for is an "executive summary" of the difference
between them. That is, something like "you can't put the BA356-JC in
the 2100RM cabinet, for [x] reason".
Thanks!

6429.5 | And that's all I'm gonna say about that.... | SSDEVO::INDERMUEHLE | Stonehenge Alignment Service | Thu Feb 27 1997 08:45 | 22 |
| Hi Stu,
I went into the web site I mentioned in a previous note and
did a little detective work for you. The best I can determine
regarding the -AR is that it is the BA356-SB shelf with what
is required to mount into the rear of many system inclosured.
When I did a "where used" it listed half a zillion Alphaserver
2100 options along with 4100 and AS1000A.
The 2 biggest differences between the 2 BOM's are, the level
at which the parts are pulled, i.e. option vs 70-class.
And there are 2 power cables for the -AR and not in the -JC.
Hope this is what you need. Get one of the accounts I mentioned.
That way you can drive yourself crazy trying to decipher our
options to........ enter big smile here.
Regards,
John I.

| Thanks John for your assistance.
I'd also received mail from someone else who pointed out that the major
difference is that the BA356-JC is for a metric rack, while the
BA36R-AR is for a RETMA rack.
This was the information I sought.
Thanks again!
