6405.0. "SWXCR re-config disks." by LEXSS1::GINGER (Ron Ginger) Tue Feb 18 1997 07:16
I have a swxcr with 5 pairs of mirrored disks. I need to remove one of
the pairs, and build a new raid set using those 2 drives and a couple
new slots.
Problem is, the unit I wnat to move is Group B. I must keep the current
Group C, D, and E.
If I delete C,D, E and B, then add back the drives that were C,D, and
E, moving them up now to B, C, D. but do NOT do an init, will the data
survive?
I know how to handle the changes to Unix, and I know to be sure I get
the config right when I do it, but will the controller let me use a
'new' mirror set that I did not init?

6405.1 | Should work | UTRTSC::VISSER | | Tue Feb 18 1997 13:38 | 19 |

If somebody were to ask me that question (did you?), then I would say:
- First insure you have up to date backup's (just in case)
- Delete any LUNs and groups you have to (be sure to have the picture
right WHICH belong together)
- Add groups and LUNs, without init.
- Run a Parity check to prevent you had a bad day and things got
messed.
I do NOT have active references but (what I understand of how they
work), there is a limitted risk.
However, I guess the OFFICIAL word would be: Do INIT them and restore.
