A customer has two Prioris HX with SCO OpenServer 5, Mylex RAID controller and TLZ07 DAT tape. When he uses 120m tapes, the backup program very often shows media errors or hangs. When he uses 90m tapes, he almost never has this problems. On one server the TLZ07 has already been replaced. Compression is not used at the moment. Are there any known problems with 120m tapes ? Thanks for any info. Josef Jetzinger MCS Austria

Whose 120 meter DDS-2 tapes? Digital labeled, or another mfgr? What code rev TLZ07? What kind of media errors? How often is "very often"? DDS-2 120 M tapes have a slightly higher soft error rate than the shorter tapes, but should work fine. There are no known systematic problems with this tape. Cheap DDS-2 tapes have been known to have problems. Also, it is possible that the customer has a bad batch of tape - have you tries some Digital tapes with a different lot #? Chris |
