| The differences between a RA410 and a RA450 are the 4 boards, the controller
bulkheads, the new external battery SBB and cables, and the firmware cards.
There may be other differences that I'm forgetting, but I think that's it.
The new bulkhead provides the connector to hook the cache to the battery.

| see http://sniff.shr.dec.com , it should have
the docs outlining a 410 to 450 upgrade procedure
It is essentially replacing the HSZs & caches & adding
external cache battery/ies

Perhaps digital should attempt (or indice?) to promote this upgrade
by charging just a nominal fee. The reason is that the support
cost (for digital) on the sw410 must be huge. Anyone care to publish
the mtbf ?
The cache backup battery design of of the hsz40 is extrememly problematic.
(insert your own horror stories here) On the other hand, the sw450
(hsz50) has been rock solid based on my personal observations and
testing.
It would seem like good business practice to offer a very attractive
"hsz40 to hsz50 upgrade" and rid ourselves of the hsz40 headaches.
imo,
Paul
