6371.0. "RZ28D-VW Nightmares" by SCASS1::DUNKERSON () Mon Feb 03 1997 15:43

Where experencing problems with RZ28D-VW in a raid 5 configuration were
a drive randomly fails within the raid 5 configuration. We've seen this
before on another site and had to replace all 21 drives because of the
same problem. Firmware Rev. of the RZ28D-VW is at 0008 and the KZPSC is
at rev. 2.36.... I am trying to find out is this a known problem or
    are we missing something...

     Thanks,

Did the wholesale swap, fix the "problem"?

And were the drives really bad? (IE: re-optimized or tested on a different
system?)

Were they tested to make sure they were bad and not a controller issue, causing
them to be marked bad?

Were they in internal or external boxes?

Were they full shelfs?

Were they powered up before the controller?

"problem" is real vauge and the RZ28D is a good drive that should be running
just fine. You may be overlooking "something" else. If you have a Customer with
a reliability problem that is requiring wholesale drive replacement then
escalate the case through support channels and find out what is really happening.

6371.30010 should make no difference. 0010 is just 0008 with additional flash prom support.SUBSYS::VIDIOT::PATENAUDEAsk your boss for ARRAY's...Tue Feb 04 1997 07:360
