Hi,
I've looked around but didn't find an answer to a likely very dumb question.
Since the C and B varients are identical hardware, is it possible to load
the B firmware into a C varient thus making it a B?
Thanks,
JJ

On the yes side, yes you can load the code, you then have to reformat the unit
as they are different capacities.
On the no side, RZ29B's and RZ29C's are bought seperatly from the vendor. If you
send back a bad "C" with "B" code in it, it is probable you will recieve no
warrenty credit. That, and the hardware revision of the two drives does not also
track the same. So, you could kill the drive during the download if the firmware
you use is incompatible with the specific hardware. For example, RZ29B version
0014 if loaded into the latest revision RZ29B/C hardware with the newer Amtel
(if memory serves me) flash prom will kill the drive. Use only the latest code
and this will limit the exposure as latest code is backward compatible with
older hardware.
Also, there is the issue of supportablity. PCBU sells and supports RZ29C,
SBU/Storage sells and supports the RZ29B. Genderchanging in manufacturing is
controller and new lables/warrenty are reassigned, genderchanging outside of
that environment is frowned upon for a variety of reasons of which only a few I
mentioned.
