    Hi,
    
    I know the max number for CIPCI on ALphaServer is 2. We
    have proposed a cluster which required 4 Star Couplers in 1 year (The
    existing cluster has two SC). Does AlphaServer 8400 support mixed four
    CIPCA and CIXCD controller on same system?
    
    I know CISCE (CI Star Coupler Expander) is no longer available. Is 
    there any alternative to increase no of port on the existing SC? If
    there is no alternative, the customer accepts mixed CIPCA and CIXCD
    concept if it works.
    
    Urgent. We have to get back the customer tomorrow.

The Alphaserver 8400 supports 10 CIPCI adapters in V6.2-1H3, and 26 in V7.1.

    I don't believe mixing CIXCDs and CIPCAs on the same system is
    supported. Mixing them on a star is supported. Better check to make
    sure.

CI Support

OpenVMS Cluster CPUs can be configured with multiple CI adapters.
Table 2 shows the types of adapters that are supported by each
CPU. There can be only one type of adapter configured in a CPU
(with the exception that CIXCD and CIPCA adapters can be configured  <-----
together in the same CPU). The maximum quantity of each type         <-----
is noted in the table. The CI adapters in a CPU can connect to the
same or different star couplers.

Hope you mean CIPCA, never heard of a CIPCI.
Assuming so,
Max # cipca/server is up to 26 under V7.1, up to 10 on V6.1-1H3
(See note 4871.7 for announcement)

We have had customers with 4 to 8 CIPCAs/8400 for almost a year...

Yes, you can mix CIXCD & CIPCA up to the above numbers on an AS8x00.

No, there's no CISCE replacement, so max is 16 CI widgits/Star coupler
unless you can find a pair of CISCEs used...

Clarification,

    CIXCD/CIPCA mix on 8x00 is only supported under V7.1, we've never qualified
it under V61.-1H3.
