5302.0. "reboot on a 3000 300LX" by TOPTEN::KELLER () Wed Apr 30 1997 17:22

        We have a 4 node FDDI cluster with 2 AS2100a's and 2 3000
    mod 300LX's, all running VMS ver7.1. Everything is working as
    expected except the fact that if we shutdown with an autoreboot
    on the 300LX's, shortly after the VMS banner, the system hangs.
    This occurs on either of the 300LX's. (The 2100's work fine)
    The "boot_reset" parameter is set to off. If we set that pa-
    rameter to on, meaning "do an init before booting", the system
    comes up fine. We have been told to change both system boards
    because they are old rev's (they were, I did, but only one, it
    was a rev n, I went to an R, no change).We were at the level of
    microcode requested when we installed VMS 7.1, but have since
    upgraded to a later version (7 I think). We took a crash dump.
    apparently the Restart Parameter Block is being corrupted but
    no one knows why.
       Can anyone offer any clues?

5302.1enable reset, use CANASTA on future crashesXDELTA::HOFFMANSteve, OpenVMS EngineeringWed Apr 30 1997 17:3514
   Why were you told to disable boot_reset? That's normally
   set to enable the reset, save for specific circumstances.

: We took a crash dump.

   Send the CLUE output from any crashes you might encounter
   to the CANASTA e-mail server, see note 233.* for details.

: apparently the Restart Parameter Block is being corrupted but
: no one knows why.

   boot_reset should not directly affect the RPB.

5302.2that was quick!TOPTEN::KELLERWed Apr 30 1997 17:427
    I should have looked around a little more before I entered this. There
    are a couple of entries about this in the dec3000 notes file. I will
    persue it there.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
