5295.0. "Whence PEA0 and multiple DEFPAs?" by DYPSS1::SCHAFER (Kalhun!) Wed Apr 23 1997 19:08

    a (possibly) foolish question ...

    consider 3 systems - A8200, each with 2 DEFPA cards, plugged into
    DECconcentrator 900s. FDDI is the cluster transport, all connected
    storage is MTI. according to the way things are cabled, there should
    be two separate rings; i don't know if one acts as a backup or as an
    "alternative" path.

    why, then, doesn't VMS show any path other than PEA0 to these disks?

    +b (whose VMScluster skills are rusty at best)

5295.2ALL network devices combine into 1 PEA0 device.CSC32::B_HIBBERTWhen in doubt, PANICThu Apr 24 1997 11:329
    The PEDRIVER controls ALL the network adapters that have SCS protocal
    enabled. ALL the devices are combined into a single PEA0 logical
    device. The PEDRIVER then picks the best path to the node that you are
    trying to communicate with base on the last measured latency. If your
    2 rings are really separate, they will still appear as a single PEA0
    device, but the driver should pick the correct path to the remote node.
