5281.0. "How does one monitor CI traffic?" by KAOFS::P_CHAPLINSKY () Fri Apr 11 1997 18:36

My question is simply this: Is there a way to monitor CI traffic
from VMS? There is a CI analyzer that will analyze the CI traffic
much as you would do for the LAN but this customer wants to look
at it from his operating system. For my own knowledge, are there
products available that will accomplish this?

    Thank you for your answers.

DECamds has a SCA window and monitors SCS traffic (PE,PA,PM drivers)
and cou can also get a break-down on how much lock traffic, MSCP
    inbouond/outbound and TMSCP inbound/outbound).

What is your customer looking for?

5281.2Will DECamds do the trick at V6.2-1H3?KAOFS::P_CHAPLINSKYMon Apr 14 1997 18:5325
I did a little research as I am not familiar with the DECamds product.
I understand that DECamds is no longer sold as a separate product since
the release of OpenVMS VAX and Alpha V6.1 platforms. Customers who
have either the VAXcluster or VMScluster Software license are entitled
    to use the product.

    With DECamds you can...

" monitor, investigate, diagnose and correct resource
    	  problems in multi-system real-time environments."

Christian, with regards to the SCA window feature you mention in your
reply, is this feature newly released with OpenVMS V7.0? or it is only
a component of this feature that is new?

To give a brief problem description... our customer has two 8400's
running OpenVMS V6.2-1H3. Each machine has 3 CI's. One of these CI's
was a loaner from Digital. The customer wants to know if they should
purchase a CI replacement if not, will they experience any bottleneck
    traffic?

    Thanks for your help,

this feature was only introduced in V7.0 of DECamds, you could however
try to install the DECamds V6.2 kit on your cluster, but take the
console from the DECamds V7.1 kit, that way you should be able to view
    the SCA window.
