5242.0. "Adding new node into MEMORY CHENNEL Cluster" by TBJVOA::FUJITA () Wed Mar 05 1997 23:28

Using Memory Channel interconnect for OpenVMS cluster system,

Can I add a new node into the cluster without shutdown the cluster ?

How about upgrade two nodes cluster, which is connected directly to each other,
to three nodes cluster ?

How about upgrade two nodes cluster connected with M/C Hub to three nodes ?

Thanks,
SHUN

for a 2-node virtual hub config, you definitely need to shutdown your
system and reconfigure, as you need a hub now.

If you already have a 2-node real hub config, I believe you can just
plug in the 3rd node into the real hub. Sure the other nodes will
notice the community change, and probably do some re-config/re-inits,
but the system should stay up.

Of course if you have another SCS channel as backup ofr MC failure,
you could ideally just power-off the real hub, do the cabling and
power-cycle again. This will failover the SCS traffic without crashing
the 2 systems or needing a reboot, and when the real hub comes back
online it will switch back over to MC.
