Currently, Digital and Wind River are involved in a negotiation to
provide a VxWorks V5.3/Tornado product for Alpha systems. As this
negotiation is ongoing, details should not be discussed in this
notesfile or in any public forum, including with any customer. Until an
agreement is publicly announced, any information you receive on this
issue from any source should be considered Digital Internal Use Only.
Recently, I made some comments in this notesfile suggesting that
progress is finally being made between the two companies. Knowing full
well that I was breaking my own rules on discussing this in public, I
did it anyway. I, personally, am sick and tired of evading this issue.
I understand that people in the field need information about what's
going on. I am working to obtain an official memo from our management
which describes our intent, gives a status of what's been accomplished
so far and estimates when we'll see a unified V5.3/Tornado product for
Alpha.
Whatever happens, Tornado for Alpha is not going to happen overnight.
It will take several months, at least. There will be more releases of
the V5.2x product from Digital. Customers should plan on keeping pace.
Other notes discussing this ongoing negotiation have been removed from
this notesfile. Any notes entered in the future which mention it will
