1238.1 | How do UK CSC access Realtime Expertise Centre? | BBPBV1::WALLACE | john wallace @ bbp. +44 860 675093 | Thu Mar 20 1997 10:16 | 20 |
| Do they just want to download their existing system image ? If they
ever need to update it they need a VAX somewhere with VAXELN...
Otherwise, DECnet-classic should work just fine. "Support" is moot.
DECnet-OSI may be more of a problem. LANACP doesn't help enough; the
download is more than just loading an image file, there's some phase IV
DECnet stuff to tell the target its DECnet address and such.
There's a specific VAXELN conference at HELIX::VAXELN but many of the
players come here too. There's also a mail account at Helix::realtime.
Allegedly there is an official route from the UK CSC (COMICS:: implies
UK CSC?) to the Realtime Expertise Centre in the US where some good
folks are available to help. I don't know how it's supposed to work, it
would be handy to have that info available in the UK CSC.

1238.2 | As long as they have DECnet | ZYDECO::BODA | Realtime Expertise Center | Thu Mar 20 1997 10:27 | 12 |
| There is no problem loading a VAXELN system image to a VAXELN target using
an OpenVMS Alpha system as the load host. As long as they have configured
DECnet on the load host with service enabled (to recognize the MOP boot
requests) and set the other target node characteristics, they can boot with
no problem. I've done this several times with our OpenVMS Alpha Systems here.
Please remember that no other VAXELN development work can be done on the
OpenVMS Alpha system as those tools will only work on OpenVMS VAX systems.

Alan

| We collided John :-)
There was one gotcha regarding DECnet/OSI and its MOP V4 protocol
and the KAV30 target. However, that has been since corrected in
the latest EPROMs for the KAV30 (ca Sept '94). However, the other
VAXELN targets should not have a problem booting either via
MOP V4 or MOP V3.

Alan
