3092.0. "Functional Acknowledgements and EDIFACT/Document Priority" by GIDDAY::REID (David Reid,CSC,Sydney DTN 730-7233) Wed Apr 09 1997 00:34

During previous discussions with Digital about the benefits of upgrading
from DEC/EDI (Bauxite) to DEC/EDI v2.1 there were two (2) requirements
a Customer states were specified.

Whether or not these are/will be available is now being requested:

1) Functional Acknowledgements for EDIFACT (CONTRL document syntax
        version 2 and 3 ). This is the EDIFACT equivalent of the
        X.12 997 document.
        The DEC/EDI documentation only mentions the X.12 implementation ie.

        "Functional acknowledgements are an X.12/TDCC concept, and do not
         currently apply to EDIFACT...."
         ( see page 8.21 from the DEC/EDI Configuring manual )

2) Document priorities. The ability to prioritise a document so that it
        "jumps" to the head of the queue and is processed before lower
        priority documents.

Can you please provide some information on the above.

Thanks

    	Support for the EDIFACT CONTRL message is being implemented for
    	DECEDI V3.2. The functionality will be almost identical to X12
    	functional acknowledgements.

    	Can you get clarification about document syntax versions 2 and 3.
    	We only plan to support the CONTRL message for syntax version 3.
    	I have not seen a CONTRL message definition for syntax version 2.

Thanks for the input however there seems to be a little bit of a glitch here if
as I believe V3.x+ is only for UNIX....

Is it possible to arrange a "patch" to implement this function on a VMS system?

    	On the contrary; Digital UNIX and OpenVMS.

    	In fact, I'm about to start porting all my work on UNIX over to VMS.
3092.4The "BIG" QuestionGIDDAY::REIDDavid Reid,CSC,Sydney DTN 730-7233Tue Apr 15 1997 00:599
How long is a piece of string??

The (almost happy)Customer's next question of course was when is V3.2 likely
to hit the streets. There is therefore no surprise that he needed this
capability yesterday.

Ballpark??

Thanks
3092.5When it will be available?EEMELI::PLAHTEENMAKIPertti LhteenmkiTue Apr 22 1997 12:3215
Hi,

We also have several customers who are happy to get functional acknowledgements
in use on OpenVMS. After two years we finally believe being able to start
business on DEC/EDI again. Very good news!

When will DEC/EDI v3.2 be availabe? I read from Web that it is planned to be
availabe at late Spring 97??????

Thanks!

Pertti

Hi,

I think we are currently forecasting Fall 1997 (i.e. Sep/Oct).
