I am trying to configure an OFTP Gateway with DEC/EDI V2.1C on Alpha.
On startup the OFTP Gateway justs seems to hang ( lines of dots). The
other processes appear to get started but after some while timeout.

Is X.25 started on VIB2?
One of the tasks the OFTP does on start up, which is different from
the other DEC/EDI services, is to assign a channel to the PSI network
device. However, this may not explain why it's hanging.
Do you know if it's trying to do recovery? Are there any
OFTP transmission files needing recovery?
If possible, can you post the Parameter Details here.

Yes, X25 is started. X29 and X25 mail are working OK.
We have not been able to get the OFTP Gateway up at all so there are no
Transmission Files around.

| WAG - Is the rights identifier PSI$X25_USER defined
for the user starting up DEC/EDI?
Based on the documentation, although this identifier
is not necessary if the OFTP Gateway process has
NETMBX privilege, I have come across problems if
PSI$X25_USER isn't defined. Ensure the decedi account
and/or the user account starting DEC/EDI have NETMBX
privs.
Information about PSI$X25_USER can be found in the
`DEC X.25 Client for OpenVMS AXP Systems - Security Guide'.
Look at Appendix C.
I know the OFTP gateway image is installed with
NETMBX, TMPMBX, OPER, SYSLCK, BYPASS, SYSGBL, and SYSNAM
privs; as defined in DECEDI$STARTUP.COM.

The problem was caused by wrong protection on the DECEDI$OFTP.EXE
image.
