I have a customer.... They are currently runninf DEC/EDI 2.1 on a VAX in the cluster They want to install DEC/EDI 2.1D on an Alpha in the same cluster (diffrent system disks, different decedi areas, etc.) Can they install the new without deleting the old, and can they then one the VAX side (as long as the Alpha is NOT running) and vice versa? (Can they run each version individually?) I don't see why not, but thought I'd cehck with the experts before I give the customer a definate yes. Lorey

They can't share the same cluster. Cluster support was just not included in V2.x, there is a presumption of a single system. You may have some success in fooling the respective nodes that they are not in a cluster together (as you propose), however you can still come unstuck with the Lock Manager. Locks are cluster wide and one system could lock out the other. Mark | |||||

Mark, My proposal is to only ever run one "copy" of DEC/EDI at a time, never to run both at the same time. Doesn't that preclude the lock manager? They would have separate databases, storage areas, separate everything. Lorey |
