| Activity in this file has been so low that I forget to keep posting
our club events here.
I hope you eastern Mass/southern NH players are still interested.
The Framingham Chess Club survives in Natick, as noted in the previous reply.
Here's the posting for our April/May 1997 event, our Club Championship
(six round Swiss in a single section)...
---------- FCC(MCC) Club Championship attracts area Masters to play ----------
The first round of the April tournament was postponed due to the storm.
We are going to push the entire April/May schedule by one week with
the Graduation Blitz that was scheduled for May 27 being dropped off
the schedule. This leaves us with
Club Championships 6-SS April 8, 15, 22, 29, May 6, 13
Quick Chess 6-SS, Game/29 May 20 & 27
I think the tournament should shape up to be a pretty strong one as John
Curdo (2346) and Igor Foygel (24xx) have told me they are playing. In
additon Valery Frenlakh (2280) is considering as is Lou Mercuri (2391).
I'm hoping that Joel Johnson (2202) will choose to play again as well.
6 - SS all in one sections with
1st place $200
2nd place $140
3rd place $80
$60 for highest finishing player Under 2000
$60 for highest finishing player Under 1750
$60 for highest finishing player Under 1500
This is traditionally the biggest tournament of the year. This is the
tournament that people come back to play in even if they haven't been
playing. It's almost like a reunion tournament.
With all this in mind, I hope that you'll come out to play. We've mailed
flyers out to all the Masters in New England. I anticipate an even
stronger field than we had in November for the Stan Crowe Memorial.
With the class prize structure the way it is, you have an opportunity to
still walk away with a prize even if you don't win the whole thing.
Even though 6 rounds (6 weeks) is a long time to commit to play, think of
it this way, by entering the tournament you have a reserved seat. If you
can make it great, if not, you can get a bye (up to two per tournament)
and still have a spot reserved for the next week. Even if you use up
your two byes, you still have a spot, you just don't get the half point. Of
course, you still have to call anytime before 7:00 by the night you Won't
be playing so we don't pair you.
I really hope you will show as I'm hoping this will be the largest/strongest
weeknight tournament anyone has ever seen in New England. Hey, you
might even have time this weekend to study if you're really all that
worried.
For those of you who haven't been playing, when do you really think
you'll ever really have time to get ready to play? At least if you enter,
you're playing, which is probably more than you're studying. Any time
devoted to chess is working on your game whether it is studying or
playing. Six weeks of play will go a long way towards getting you back
in shape.
Hope you'll come out to play.
