I just helped a co-worker set up a 'new' refurb Starion 942 (P-133, 1.6Gb,
24Mb ram, Telecommander 3300(?) modem/sound card).

We ran into some problems during setup and had to reinstal the TC3300
drivers listed in Note 7310.1.    That all went well, and the sound and
modem work ok now except as described below:

In Windows95, using Dial-Up Networking (DUN), the modem will not disconnect
when a call is terminated.  It keeps some sort of open connection/link to
the modem, and then subsequent attempts to dial into something else gives
the error window saying "can't connect - device is already in use by
another DUN application" (paraphrased).  The only apparent recovery is a
hard boot, which is a real pain at a minimum.

The only thing I know we set a bit differently is the checkbox in the
dialing shortcut that checks for dial-tone first.  We were using another
person's phone to test the modem, and he had the voicemail stutter tone on
it, so we unchecked the dial tone check.  But that shouldn't have any effect
on trying to hang up and clear the connection (should it?)

We need help on this ASAP, as this is our SBS administrator and it is
impacting her productivity.

    We have experienced problems using the Win95 built-in applications
    (dialup, FAX, Hypertem). If the system is connected to an office phone
    system, that may be part of the problem. Some phone systems are digital
    (as opposed to analog) and can cause problems such as you're
    experiencing. Can you connect the modem to a phone line that does not
    run through the phone system. I've had to have a separate line
    installed in my office to by-pass the phone system as it was giving me
    problems. 
    
    If this is really critical, you might want to try some other modems.
    The Telecommander was, and still is, considered to be a home market
    product. It is possible that the modem portion of the board is weak in
    the DAA circuit which could cause this type of problem.
