What is the difference between 4 Meg 30 pin 3 chip 70 ns Simms (auctioned on internet) and 4 Meg 30 pin 4 chip 70 ns Simms (ref 7259.1) Are they compatible? Thanks in advance.

3-chip usually refers to 9bit memory sticks. 2 chips for data, and one for parity (a different chip) 4-chip can refer to 8bit memory. ALl for chips used for data. The key is most pentium motherboard can have EITHER type installed since they do NOT use hardware Parity by default. Most all 486 and newer Pentium-Pro motherboards require 9BIT memory. Mark | |||||
