I have read note 7363 regarding upgrading the Celebris GL ST 133 PCs to
5200 CPUs. We are investigating prolonging the active life of our PCs and
have purchased a Pentium 5200 CPu to replace the 5133 in one machine. The
jumpers have been set correctly and the PC registers that it is a P200.
However, this PC is installed with Windows NT Version 4.0 and when it tries
to boot it gets to the blue screen (where it displays the version and build
no at the top) and hangs. CTRL+CLT+DEL has no effect so the system must be
powered off to reset it.
Has anyone had any success with upgrading their Celebris GL 5133 to 5200
and running Windows NT 4.0??

The CPU is a standard Pentium 200Mhz (not MMX). The Celebris GL ST system
has onboard SCSI and the disk drive is a SCSI (the only IDE device is the
CDROM). I am going to try a few more things. Will post my results.

I have succesfully managed to install the Standard Pentium 200Mhz CPU in
the Celebris GL ST system. However, to get it working I had to disable
the "external Cache" option in the BIOS.
I am running the latest BIOS (1.03) and there is 256K secondary cache
installed in the system. I have also updated Windows NT 4.0 to Service
Pack. However, the only way to get NT 4.0 to boot is to ensure that the
external cache option is disabled.
It seems strange that I can install and run Windows 95 without any
problems. I also started to install Windows NT 3.51 workstation and it
got past the area where NT 4.0 hangs, so I presume I can successfully
install NT 3.51. Both of these were with the external cache enabled.
Can anyone offer any suggestions as to why this is happening and possibly
how to get external cache enabled again and still have NT 4.0 working?
It seems a strange trade-off - the P200 CPU or external cache....

| I'd like to get more than 8-bit of color at 1600x1200, so....
What is the correct part number for upgrading video memory on an existing Celebris
GL6200 with on-board 2Mb Matrox MGA? VTX price lists the following three part
number, but what is the difference between DT-A2801-EV and SN-PCCAM-CA? Am I
correct to assume the motherboard contains a socket for the additional video memory,
or was the socket removed to save a few pennies in manufacturing?

I put the 6MB in my Celebris when it was new, but it turns out only
the first 4MB are useful with Windows 95, so may as well go for the
2 MB upgrade.
The module is a 2"x3" card with two connectors, it mounts face down on
the system module.
