7449.1 | What are you attempting? | PCBUOA::GKELLEY | | Wed May 21 1997 15:38 | 6 |
| If you explained what the problem is/was and what you were attempting
to do, someone might be able to help. The last rev for that MLB is "J".

7449.2 | The problem was: | NNTPD::"[email protected]" | Pedro Torres | Mon Jun 02 1997 14:50 | 22 |
| Hi Glen
I didn't mention what the problem was because it didn't
deserve your time.
The fact is that I couldn't make this motherboard:
Mother Board 54-23580-02 (the rev. was E01)
work with this CPU:
CPU, 486DX2-66 3.3V (w/Writeback Cache) 21-43944-01
and I tried with 3 of each!!
The jumpers were OK (in fact I tested several wrong combinations).
I solved the problem using the following motherboard:
Mother Board, Big 486 W/O CPU 54-24054-05
The problem is solved so there's no need for you to reply.
Thank you for your time
Pedro Torres

7449.3 | 54-23580 is +5 volts | PCBUOA::GKELLEY | | Mon Jun 02 1997 17:42 | 7 |
| Its not really a bother, that's what we're here for.
I believe that the Venturis 4xx MLB (54-23580) is a +5 volt board. The
other MLB may have auto voltage (I'm not familiar with that one).

7449.4 | Same QRL | NNTPD::"[email protected]" | Pedro Torres | Tue Jun 03 1997 05:45 | 9 |
| Glen:
The fact is that the MLB and the CPU that don't work together
are mentioned on the same QRL on STARS.
Could this be a bug?

7449.5 | AMD 3.3v 66MHZ processor needs a regulator board on 54-23580-02 | EEMELI::HKOTAKOSKI | | Tue Jun 03 1997 08:46 | 8 |
|
If you are using AMD66Mhz 3.3v processor on 54-23580-02 MLB you
should use regulator board to convert from MLBs 5v to 3.3v.
There is an integrated regulator on 54-24054-05 MLB so in
that case voltage can be selected by jumpers.

7449.6 | check .5 | PCBUOA::GKELLEY | | Tue Jun 03 1997 10:19 | 8 |
| I don't have access to STARS, but the note by Harri seems to point out
the differences in the two MLBs. The 3.3 volt CPU will not work in a 5
volt MLB unless you have a regulator to convert the 5 volts to 3.3
volts. I can't recall if the 54-23580 MLB has a place for a regulator.
Some of the Intel upgrade parts came on a small circuit board that
included the regulator, I don't know if the AMD part comes that way.

7449.7 | Venturis 4xx regulator board | EEMELI::HKOTAKOSKI | | Wed Jun 04 1997 07:21 | 6 |
| If AMD processor doesn't come with regulator it can be ordered separately
with part no 30-44991-01 (Adaptor, regulator, cpu power lever, 5v -> 3.3)

Harri
