7448.0. "FX to FX-2 driver differences?" by SNOFS1::powell.snl.dec.com::powellronald (Australia!) Wed May 21 1997 03:49

Is there a list of different/changed/must have file/driver list
for the change from the Venturis FX to the Venturis FX-2? IE-
what do I have to manually load different for the FX-2 to the
FX?

Background: Customer is a large Digital site purchasing 20 -
50 PC's a month. Due to their COE they delete the FIS and load
an in house created FIS. With the change from the FX to the
FX-2 we need to tell them or make available the W95 drivers
that are not supplied on the W95 non OEM CD.

Can a list or the drivers required be made available please.
If they are available, from where can I get them?

 Ron Powell.

Well, there's probably at least three differences/additions
    in terms of drivers.

    The graphics... S3 Trio64V2/GX on the FX-2
The DMA disk controller... Intel TX chipset (82371AB PCI bus master)
The USB drivers... new on the FX-2.

The video driver can be found at http://pcbu.ako.dec.com
under Desktop, Options, Video. Dunno 'bout the other two.

The USB drivers... new on the FX-2.

    From the USB FAQ:

    What is USB?

USB is peripheral bus standard developed by PC and telecom
industry leaders -- Compaq, DEC, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, NEC and
Northern Telecom -- that will bring plug and play of computer
peripherals outside the box, eliminating the need install cards
into dedicated computer slots and reconfigure the system. Personal
computers equipped with USB will allow computer peripherals to be
automatically configured as soon as they are physically attached -
without the need to reboot or run setup. USB will also allow
multiple devices -- up to 127 -- to run simultaneously on a
computer, with peripherals such as monitors and keyboards acting
as additional plug-in sites, or hubs.

Sure, shoot the messenger, Hans! That was a quote from the USB FAQ,
    something I did not write...
