7435.0. "Help with Boot Floppy" by PRIME8::VAUGHN (Mike Vaughn DTN 339-5325) Thu May 08 1997 12:15

Hello -

I just got my hands on a Venturis 5133 that I'm trying
to configure. It has a Soundblaster (Creative Labs), a Toshiba
CD (IDE) and a hard disk (IDE). The hard drive is new, so
no software. What I would like to do is create a boot floppy
that will allow me to boot the system and see both the CD and
the disk so I can install Windows 95.

Seems simple right? But here's the problem. I have a 2nd
venturis with a SCSI disk and the same sound card. The Soundblaster
comes with directions for booting from DOS (exactly what I'm
trying to do), but it just doesn't work. Here's the autoexec.bat
I'm using as specified by Creative Labs:

\creative\ctpnp
\creative\ctload a:\creative\sbide.sys /D:mscd001 /V /P:1E8,11,3EE
\creative\mscdex /D:MSCD001 /V /M:8

After line 2 I get

Oak Technologies, Inc...
	Device Name	: MSCD001
	Transfer Mode	: Programmed I/O
   No Drives found, aborting installation

After the mscdex line I get:

Device Driver not found: 'MSCD001'.
No valid CDROM Device Drivers selected.

There is yet a 3rd Venturis in our office configured exactly like
the one I'm trying to boot (everything works) that this boot
floppy fails on, so I'm reasonably certain the problem is with
my floppy.

Any ideas??

Thanks,

mike

Found it myself. I was using a driver supplied with the Soundblaster
card; when I found one and used if for the CD itself, all was well.
