7422.0. "Strange problem on Celebris GL" by KAOFS::C_MENENDEZ (CARLOS, SOO ONT MCS (705)945-7862) Wed Apr 23 1997 22:21
A custmer just sent me this mail. They finished a huge rollout of
PCs and apparently are having problems ONLY on the GL systems. If anyone
has any ideas they will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Carlos

Kevin can you fire this off to Carlos.
In the meantime I talked to a SAS user at
OFFRI (John winters) and he had the same problem on his Celebris GL
as me when he tried to import the cgm file. As well, I cannot get documents
to
underline, neither can J. Winters. This problem appears specific to people
with
CELEBRIS GL machines.
Problem importing cgm graphics files into microsoft word 7.0a that have
been
created by SAS device driver CGMM6WC.
I create graphs through statistical software (SAS) and write to file using
the
SAS supplied driver file CGMM6WC for Microsoft word. When I am in
Microsoft
Word 7.0a, I "Insert Picture" and immediately once MS WORD locates the file
I
receive the following error message,".Error has occurred CLOSE IGNORE.. I
check the Details and get.
In discussing the problem with the SAS tech support, they indicated that
the
problem was with a missing filter "C:\WINDOWS\MSAPPS\GRPHFLP\CGMIMP.FLP"
that
is not automatically copied when MS office is installed. Therefore, I had
Karen install the filter (by re-installing MS Office and selecting all
filters).
I re inserted but THE SAME PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS.
The SAS tech support people had me copy my graphics file to them over the
net
and they had no trouble inserting the graph with MS word 7.0a . I then
took a
copy of the graph and placed it on M. Kilbys machine as well as Suzanne
Fillions. There was no problem inserting the graph on either machine. I
checked the version of MS word and it was 7.0a on both machines. When I
went
to therir filter directory "C:\WINDOWS\MSAPPS\GRPHFLP\ " the only files
found were:
jpegim32.flt, Mscreate.dir, and mspeg32.dll (see screen below).
As the graph was able to insert on their machine without the cgmimp.flt
filter,
I then moved all but those three files above from my folder
"C:\WINDOWS\MSAPPS\GRPHFLP\ " to a temporary folder that I created
..\grphflpold, and then tried inserting the picture
AND IT STILL FAILED!!!!!
Could anyone help me with this? The problem is obviously not the SAS
software
or driver that creates the graphs. Based on the sequence described above,
the
issue must be related to the hardware configuration of my machine "celebris
GL"
or the way in which the machine was configured. This is a major problem
for me
as we rent the SAS software for $1300.00 per year, and it is the central
tool
in the fulfillment of my job function.
We are also having problems printing from Microsoft Excel and Word on some
of
the GL machines. Shading and boarders do not print, instead it comes out
white.

My guess would be to check out the Matrox driver you use.
There might be later ones that solve this problem.
