A customer of mine has a problem with Prioris HX 5133 DP running SCO UnixWare 2.1. The system includes 2-channel PCI Mylex DAC960PD, firmware 2.19 and NE2000 NIC (ISA). Also there is unsupported by UnixWare Cabletron EISA adapter (disabled using SCU). All worked fine for months and were upgraded from 2.01 to 2.1 version of Unixware without problems. Then, I am not sure about the reason, they replaced NE2000 NIC with another one, NE2000 also. After that Mylex has gone, and CMOS checksum error occurs. It is impossible to find out what did they do then, but now we have the following: DAC960PD in PCI 2, INTB, IRQ 15; Channel 1: RAID 5 (ID0-4, 16 GB), ID5 - Toshiba CDROM no NICs; videoadapter in PCI 3; Cabletron (disabled) in EISA 5. The problem is, that UnixWare fails to boot with the message: "PANIC: vfs_mountroot: cannot mount root". There are no any error messages concerning configuration, DACCF works fine and shows all drives in good condition, QUAPLUS detects drives also, but DCU (Device Configuration Utility) from Unixware (both version, 2.01 and 2.1) detects Mylex with INT 0 (!). Attempt to reinstall Unixware causes the error of detecting any hard disks. Changing IRQ on Mylex to 11 and PCI arbitrary from "System default" to "CPU" didn't help. Furthermore, "Prioris HX Setup" floppy hangs indefinitely locating CDROM. I'll be glad to hear about any possible reasons for such situation. Vladimir.

As I did mention, the system had been working for several months with Mylex firmware 2.19 and Prioris bios 1.07. Therefore, I would treat such configuration as workable. Problem appeared after swapping the network card followed by CMOS error. I wouldn't touch UnixWare, but Prioris "Getting started" floppy hangs looking for CDROM connected to Mylex, and this makes the server completely unusable. In current config, there are no boards, except Mylex on IRQ 11 (INTB, PCI 2), Mylex firmware 2.39 and Prioris bios 1.10 with default settings. The same result... Vladimir.

Interrupt B? You mean the INB setting in the SCU? The IRQ should namely be set to the INTA one. Can the Mylex configuration floppy see you diskdrives? Pjotrr

Pjotrr, > Interrupt B? > You mean the INB setting in the SCU? > The IRQ should namely be set to the INTA one. Thanks a lot , the problem was exactly the INTB setting. Changed to INTA works fine. > Can the Mylex configuration floppy see you diskdrives? Yes, Mylex floppy worked with INTB also. Thanks again, Vladimir |
