7398.0. "Venturis FX 5166sm will not power up" by WHYNOW::NEWMAN (Protector of the Cause) Mon Mar 31 1997 20:23
I have a Venturis FX 5166sm that has a very interesting "power-on"
problem. The system has an Adaptec PCI SCSI Controller as well as a
second parallel port controller. There is also a Cardinal internal
modem installed as well.
Connected to the SCSI controller was an Iomega Jaz drive. If the drive
was connected to the system and the system was powered off it WOULD NOT
power back on unless the SCSI cable was removed from the back of the
system. It did not matter if the Jaz drive was powereed up or not.
Also, if memory serves me correctly, the system had the same problem
if only the SCSI cable was connected to the system.
Now, having removed the SCSI Jaz drive and cable from the system (the
controller is still installed), it will not power up if the printer (an
HP 693C) that is connected to the second parallel port is powered on.
If I power off the printer the system will power up. Once the system
is powered up I can then power up the printer and use it, and the
system, without any problems at all.
Any ideas?
