| I've seen this general problem reported a lot, and it's not just Digital's
PCs. Some PCs it works on, some it doesn't. No, it's not "supported".

I'll second the fact that these cpu upgrades are NOT SUPPORTED.
I'm probably going to look into these for my own home machine. I've
heard that the upgrades are not all created equal, even if they use the
same chip. Some are more easily configured than others. I think it is
a roll of the dice if the upgrades work in any given machine.

I (unfortunately think that you gets your choice of Intel or Intel to
upgrade... check www.intel.com to see if the machine has been
"approved" by Intel for upgrading.

| I have a customer who has used the upgrade from Evergreen that uses
this chip. he has used it on many brand pc including Digital and says
it has always worked.

| Some of these upgrades have NO JUMPERS, and some have 2 or 3 jumpers.
They usually are all cache related (write-back vs. write thru, enable
and disable, and size)
They are definitely trial-and-error upgrades. Some will work, some
won't.
