7381.0. "celebris 6200 and enet 21142 fails" by CALDEC::BOSKLOPPER () Thu Mar 13 1997 16:48

    We received 27 celebris 6200. After installing w95 we cannot
    get the ethernet controller 21142 to work. Error message controller
    not installed or incorrect setup.
    We opened three more boxes and now with four pc's they all give
    the same problem. We have here two 6180 pc's. We do the same
    installation and they work ok. The 6180 and 6200 use the same
    cpu and pci/isa boards. The 6180 is at rev 1.03 and the 6200 came
    with rev 1.04. We downgraded the 6200 to v1.03 but no luck.
    Do we have here a production problem?? Has someone had the same
    problem? Any input welcome. Meanwhile I like to put the 6180 modules
    in the 6200 and see.

    Hi Ben,

    Yes, we are investigating a similar problem. If the problem is what we
    think it is, movement of the riser card from a working to nonworking
    machine should make the bad machine work.

    For this particular problem, we're trying to come up with a customer
    installable firmware upgrade.

    Thanks for the report, and your added feedback would be appreciated.

    /Bill
7381.2My Celebris GL 6200 works fineWHYNOW::NEWMANInstalled Base Marketing - DTN 223-5795Fri Mar 14 1997 07:142
    FWIW - I have a Celebris GL6200 with the 21142 ethernet controller. It
    came with FIS W95 and appears to be working just fine

    We received 3 Celebris GL ST 6200s and two have dead ethernet
    controllers. We are currenyly working around the problem by using some
    DE435 and DE205 cards while we await an answer from F/S. This appears
    to be a very real problem and not just a fluke.

    We have just tested a solution at one internal site. Our solution
    worked for this site. Would anyone working issues with Celebris GL
    6xxx with nonfunctioning on-board network please log a call with MCS?

    Thanks,

7381.5Details please.SNOFS1::16.153.96.192::powellronaldAustralia!Tue Mar 18 1997 21:116
Bill, Can you give us any details on the 21142 issue. We are getting
one or two calls a week with this problem. Some FIS's machines work fine,
others not at all. Has the fix mentioned in .4 worked. If so, I will have
the Australian MCS guys notified.

    Hi Ron,

    Yes, the fix worked. I've tested it at yet another internal site. As
    I said, please have these cases escalated. MCS should be able to
    handle it shortly. I know there is ongoing work to make the utilities
    more usable (and foolproof) by end-users. The present solution is
    being distributed to major system staging sites.

7381.7Old driver not being replaced?NUTS2U::LITTLEATG/EOS/Object Infrastructure/meWed Mar 19 1997 12:1710
    I had a problem under Win95 when I first loaded the drivers.
    Apparently I must have loaded old drivers or something similar as the
    board would not function at all, even after installing the latest and
    greatest drivers. What finally worked was removing the device with the
    device manager and deleting some apparently old drivers, especially one
    with a .dos extension, and then rebooting and letting Win95 install new
    drivers. I wish I had more details, but that is the best I can recall.

7381.8some added informationCALDEC::BOSKLOPPERWed Mar 19 1997 22:5611
    As mentioned in .6 was my site and I was the originator of this note.
    In my case it worked fine and we got all the 6200 up. What I received
    was a beta version of the solution and is not for distribution.
    Its a bootable floppy what reprograms the control chip of the ethernet
    controller.As bill mentioned in .6 is escalate your problem so they
    will earlier have a field solution ready.
    It gives you an idea what kind of fix it is, because did was not
    explained here before.

    If you open an IPMT you will get information on the fix. The fix is
    still a beta and is not discussed here.
