7376.0. "LX5120 and NW 4.11 load problems." by SNOFS1::16.153.96.192::powellronald (Australia!) Tue Mar 11 1997 01:08

Has any one got any ideas on how to stop NW4.11 from doing an automatic
load of the O/S?

The machine is an LX5120 using a SCSI CD-rom and an IDE HDD. When the
customer tries to load NW 4.11, the load sequence starts, runs and then
crashes. The customer believes this is because he cannot load the DIGITAL
drivers, but he cannot find a way to do the equivelent of NT's 'custom'
load sequence with NW4.11 .

Sorry about the sparsity of error info, but the customer is very hard to
understand and I am geting the deatils second hand.

OK , more details from a phone call from the end customer.

 2 x Prioris LX5120 loading Netware 4.11 & SFT 3
Bios 1.05 SCU ?.?? ( customer got them at the same time)
Using the on board NIC, EIDE and SCSI controllers. EIDE has a
Digital [Connar] 1.6Gb hdd only attached. SCSI has the supplied 4x
CD-Rom attached.

The problem is that when the NT4.11 install is done from the Novel
CD, 4.11 will install its version of the NIC driver (3.xxx I am
told). When the install is complete and the system rebooted,
NW4.11 will not load any further than the NIC driver (total
lockout)IF NW4.11 is loaded on to a SCSI hard disk , all is well.
If the DE435 driver from the quicklaunch CD (2.6 the customer
says, I think it is 2.40) is substituted manually, then NW4.11
will run from the EIDE hdd ok. It is only when the Novel
version of the NIC driver is used and an EIDE hdd is installed
that this problem appears.
A temporary work around is in place, but the customer would like
to know why this is hapeening, any idea's ?

We do similar things as Microsoft when it comes to drivers. WHat is
available at the time the CD is pressed is what you get. I have not
checked the Web site for a tech tip on this, but it may be worth
investigating. If the driver on the QuickLaunch CD works, than that's
    what it's for.

7376.3NW4.11 NIC driver ver may be the problem.SNOFS1::16.153.96.192::powellronaldAustralia!Thu Mar 13 1997 16:188
Chet, the customer is doing the normal thing. The Netware 4.11 disk comes with a driver
for the DE435. The rev number is 3.xx, we are shipping 2.41. So the customer tries to
load the "latest" version and the system will not boot if an IDE hard disk is installed.
By manually deleting NW4.11s network driver and putting the 2.41 from the quicklaunch CD
in, they can load NW4.11 with out a crash. They are copy ing the cd to the hard disk
,then manually changing the driver and then installing from the hard disk.

Ron,

Edit Autoexec.bat....
The line that says SERVER, try SERVER -NA

This will not load the Autoexec.ncf file and associated NLM's, and lan
drivers.

You will be able to now load Netware and edit the Autoexec.ncf file and find
out
which line is definately causing the problem.

You can also rem out only the load "lan driver" line and see if the system
boots ok.

If it is the network driver...... try an interim release version 2.43, which
can
be found at URL :
