Customer has a venturis fx which he has recently installed Win 95 on. System runs fine in normal mode, however if safe mode is initiated Himem.sys gives an unreliable xms memory error and halts. This will be a major problem if the system crashes and needs to be brought up in safe mode. I have substituted memory, cache and motherboard. Bios level is 1.09. Has anyone seen similar situation with a venturis/celebris?

Was the system upgraded from WFWG? If so, check the SYSTEM.INI for any SISxxx lines (refers to the SIS drivers - look for SIS_MASTER=xx). If you find any, comment out the line. Also check that the SISIDE drivers are not being loaded in CONFIG.SYS. The FX running Win95 was shipped without the SIS drivers and the BIOS was rev'ed to 1.08 to fix a Win95 problem. regards, glen kelley | |||||
