Need some help on the following problem. I've already searched this file and the ASK_SSAG and ETHERWORKS notesfiles. Nothing useful found there. Installing the KZPSC-XZ (Mylex) SCSI controller interferes with the Network card. The symptoms are that NT appears to comes up fine, but no nodes are seen in the browser and pinging any external node times out. The ControlPanel/Services says all network services are running and there are node warnings in the event log. Any advice greatfully accepted! - norm Base Info --------- DECpc XL566 40Mb Ram WIndows NT 4.0, Service Pack 2 (no hotfixes) I/O slots (described from top to bottom) --------------------------------------- PCI1: Diamond Viper Graphics Card PCI2: KZPSC-XA (Mylex) PCI3: Adaptec 2940 SCSI ISA: empty ISA: empty ISA: SoundBlaster AWE32 ISA: DE205 (Etherworks 3) FW Versions ----------- Bios 1.02 DEC Pentium 1.01 PCI V2.0, 20-3.01.04 2940 ?????? Well... It gets more interesting. I "turned off" the Mylex by going to the CMOS screen and disabling PCI2; but I left the other parameters as set as they were (interrupt = 14, bus mastering = enabled, etc) I booted NT and sure enough I had the network card back and I wrote the top level note of this thread. At this point I figured that my RAID set was nonexistent. On a previous boot I had used DiskAdministrator to format the RAID set to NTFS and to label the volume. On this boot I brought up DiskAdminstrator to move around some disk letters. Lo and behold there was my RAID set. So even though PCI2 was "disabled" I guess it was only for purposes of booting since I didn't see the Mylex configuration during boot. This is confusing since I don't work on PCs at this level on a daily basis. Can anyone clear up the confusion and unwind the mystery? Thanks, - norm |
