7343.0. "DECpc 566 LPx upgrade path" by PLACEK::ochota.rpw.dec.com::Parlinski (JaroslawParlinski@RPW) Fri Feb 07 1997 11:14

Hi,
Is it possible to replace processor board in DECpc 566 LPx
(FR-811WW) - part number 54-23528-05 with the processor board
from Celebris XL5120 - part number 54-23982-05 ?
Or there is any other upgrade path for 566 LPx ?
Cheers,
Jarek Parlinski , Warsaw

    Re. .0,

    I think you are out of luck on this one. I believe the Celebris XL
    daughter cards require the combination 3.3V/5V power supply. If memory
    serves the LPx 5XX only had a standard 5V power supply.

    I think you would need to go with a Pentium OverDrive chip for faster
    cycles.

    Regards,
    David.

7343.2Try Kingstons 133M offering if Intels 83 Mhz is too slowSNOFS1::16.153.96.192::powellronaldAustralia!Mon Feb 10 1997 22:315
Changing daughter cards wont work, as per .1 . If you need a faster CPU than the Intel 83Mhz
Pro, try looking at Kingstons offering of a 133Mhz AMD 5x6 based CPU. It has its own 5v-3v
converter , plus a fan etc and uses pin outs. Look on Kingston's web page for more info.

7343.3Upgrade path for LPx 5xxPCBUOA::gizmo.ako.dec.com::rsudTue Feb 11 1997 12:215
Intel does offer a 120Mhz (I believe there's a faster one now)
Pentium Overdrive upgrade which I have been running successfully
in an LPx 5xx for several months now.

Regards.

There's a 120/133 OverDrive chip for 566 systems.
