| Last night I successfully at the "nth" attempt got a 2nd disk to work in my
Venturis 575 LP!
The sequence was:-
Rename AUTOEXEC.BAT & CONFIG.SYS
Remove CDROM and IDE controllers in WIN95
Re-boot, enter SETUP (F2) and remove hard drives.
Switch off add 2nd drive as per manual as slave on Primary IDE port.
Re-boot, enter SETUP and autodetect both hard drives.
Bring up WIN95 and it should auto-detect IDE controller. Add back the CDROM
controller.
Rename AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS and re-boot.
Only problem encountered is that both hard-drives are running in DOS
Compatibility Mode. I'm not sure if this is desirable and whether I can do
anything about it. Suggestions are most welcome!
Dave.

| It is not desireable. What do you have in your CONFIG.SYS?
Also, since the Venturis and Starion MLBs are similar, you may have the
problem described in
http://pcbu.ako.dec.com/~ftp/retail/starion/xxx/IJ90IDEA.TXT
Check it out and see if it applies.

7318.9 | Doesn;t windows-95 like two bootable drives? | KEIKI::WHITE | MIN(2,FWIW) | Wed Feb 12 1997 18:29 | 11 |

We just ran into this yesterday when using GHOST software to copy
the original boot disk. As soon as the expansion IDE drive was made
bootable and had the same volume label as the first WIndows-95 Drive,
WIndows-95 disabled the IDE and went into compatibility mode.
After removing the second drive we could boot normally with either
drive as the master, AFTER using REGEDIT and changing the NOIDE
key from a 01 to a 00.
