I doubt that either ultra or wide are of any advantage on a standard home PC,
where you usually are limited by disk transfer rates and not bus transfer rates.
The only reason for wide SCSI is the number of devices you can connect - if you
have *really* lots of stuff (ZIP drive, scanner, tape, ...)

PCI cards based on the NCR/Symbios chip are relatively cheap over here in
Europe, and come from various vendors... even as Ultra SCSI (not wide) they are
available from approx. $ 80 - much more in lire, of course, probably about
100.000 or more these days ;-)

But then, my ASUS card (which came in that price range) seems to be somewhat
problematic from time to time (as mentioned in other replies in this Notes
file), but I'm not sure yet whether it really is the cause.
