| Can an EIDE CD ROM be used in an LPv+ 450d2?
When I try to auto detect, it fails, and I don't know what sort of
metrics to put in manually to make it work.
The Phoenix BIOS version is 1.01.

| I'm assuimg you are trying to use a larger disk (>500MB) that requires
LBA support. The BIOS needs to be newer (not flash, chip replacement) or
you need buy a cheap ISA IDE controller and ignore the on-board support.

Ron,
I think Jim (.3) is just trying to use an ATAPI CD-ROM drive. It
"should" work okay. I haven't tried it so I can't say.

| DOH! I read too quickly. Yes, it works fine... we have many systems
like this with IDE CD-ROMs.

| Do I need a newer BIOS to get it to work, or should it work "out of the
box" with the BIOS I have?
Currently, when I connect the CD as the second hard drive and try to
install it in the BIOS as user-defined type 49, it says it fails to
autotype the drive. Doesn't it need to be recognized by the BIOS in
order to use it?
I went through the whole list, and there is no obvious "type" for a CD.
Are there CD values I can use for type 49?

| You don't define IDE based CD-ROMs. Really. It just works. (As long
as a driver is there... like the one built into Windows 95.)

| re: .7
Do not try to install or autotype in the BIOS. The CDROM is loaded
with two utilities:
one loaded in CONFIG.SYS - this is the vendor supplied driver (using
the DEVICE=C:\LOCATION\DRIVER.SYS statement)
the other is loaded in AUTOEXEC.BAT - this is the Microsoft supplied
driver - called MSDEX.EXE (using the LOAD[high] C:\DOS\MSCDEX.EXE)
Make sure that you jumper the CDROM to the SLAVE drive if installed in
a system with an exsisting HD.
