Opinions needed !!! Hello...new to this file, and hoping for some help. Just got back from the Bay Side show (was impressive) and after seven hours we settled for a trailer that we liked. Am wondering if there are any views on the Mallard brand (by Fleetwood) Model we put a deposit down on is a 1997 24'11" Mallard. It is of 2x2 wood construction with 2x4 over door and windows. Aluminum roof with rain gutters, tonge and groove abs plywood foor. Queen bed at one end, bathroom at other. Kitchen with 3 burner stove, oven and micro wave. (a cheap microwave) Ducted heat and a 13500 btu ac on top. Sterio, lites etc. The interior is middle of the road...not the cheapest quality I've seen ....but surely not the best either. Also has two axles, brakes, an 18 foot awning, 30 gallon water storage, battery, NO spare, steps, shower(not an insert though). Unit wieghs 3850 dry. The dealer (Campers inn at shirely MA) threw in the anti sway stuff and the electric brake hookup for our truck...also added jacks and some sort of prep package. Has 2 30 gal propane tanks up front and some weird looking tv antenna on top. Windows are nice quality...they crank open and are called "radiased" (sp). Seems to have everything we need...and then some. Price started at 13900 and got it for 11500 with delivery and our choice of colors in the interior. ( had alot of other goodies too but it was all common stuff found in most brands ) My 2nd question (for rambling on so long) is this....Is this price as good as it seems...or should we get it cheaper and how much so. After many hours of "wheeling and dealing" with different dealers we felt pretty good with this deal...however one has to wonder how much more could I have gotten it for. (they would not budge from this price though, but that may not mean anything 'cept that was as low as they were willing to go ) Thanxs in advance for any advice/comments/suggestions Dominic

Seems like a decent deal... I bought the 23' foot (really 23' 11") model last summer (also a `97, it had just come in!) for about the same money, so I guess your getting a little more room for the same amount of $$$... I know what one you have, it looks an AWFUL lot like our 23', but you have the master BR, where the bunkbeds are on the 23'... We took our's out several times, and have found that it handles well, and holds the heat well (we went out in 20 degree weather last fall, and the heater worked real well)... So, considering your's is a little larger and you paid the same $$$ as we did, it seems like you made out alright... That reminds me, winter's coming to an end and I haven't gotten my spare tire yet...!!! Good Luck, Joe |
