5112.0. "About Alert on Patches for OpenVMS Alpha V6.2 ?" by NOMAHS::SECRIST (Rdb WWS; [email protected]) Wed Mar 05 1997 18:50

The following alert has been published for reference by our
customers concerning Alpha VMS V6.2. One of my customers
ran it all down in DSIN and found that some of the patches
are either not listed or in one case is superceded by a newer
patch. Where can I look up these VMS patches ?

The patch search engine Digital provides at
    http://www.service.digital.com:8031/ returned no hits
on the patch keywords below (e.g. alpcpu004_062).

Patches unavailable on DSIN include alpcp004_062, alppopc01_070,
and alpshad05_070. alplan03_062 is on engineering hold.
alpboot04_062 has been superceded by alpboot05_062.

    Alert follows.

    Regards,
    rcs

TITLE: Critical Patches to Run Oracle Rdb on OpenVMS Alpha V6.2

PRODUCT: Oracle Rdb on OpenVMS Alpha V6.2 - Alpha Only

SOURCE: Oracle Worldwide Customer Support

ALERT: 25 February 1997 RDB_A100

Oracle Rdb engineering and Digital OpenVMS engineering have been working
closely together analyzing a number of system and database problems on
Alpha systems running OpenVMS V6.2 and Oracle Rdb. For a number of these
cases, the problems were already corrected and available as software
fixes for OpenVMS and other layered products.

Based on this experience, the following are recommendations from Oracle
Rdb engineering and Digital OpenVMS engineering:

   - For systems with the Digital Open3D product, upgrade to at least
version 3.4 of Digital Open3D. Older versions of the Digital Open3D
product on version 6.2 and later of Open VMS would cause memory
     corruption and unpredictable system results.

   - For systems running UCX, upgrade to the latest patch level for the
version of UCX being used. Some versions of UCX could cause register
     corruption and unpredictable system results.

   - For systems running versions of DECps prior to V3.3, upgrade to at
least version 3.3. Older versions of the DECps product could cause
register corruption and unpredictable system results.

   - Ensure that the system hardware and microcode is up to the current
revision levels. The hardware includes the CPU, controllers and
disks, and the system PAL code.

   - Install OpenVMS patches. Digital customer support centers maintain
the list of available patches for OpenVMS. Contact the Digital
customer support center for more information.

According to Digital OpenVMS engineering, as of the writing of this
document (November, 1996), the following patches should be considered
critical for OpenVMS Alpha V6.2 systems:

            ALPBOOT04_062 ALPCLIU01_062 ALPCLUS01_070
            ALPCPU004_062 ALPCPU905_062 ALPDDTM02_070
            ALPDISM01_062 ALPDRIV02_062 ALPDRIV03_062
            ALPDRIV03_070 ALPDRIV05_062 ALPF11C02_062
            ALPF11X02_070 ALPLAD03_070 ALPLAN03_062
            ALPLAT01_062 ALPLOAD01_070 ALPLOGI02_070
            ALPMANA02_070 ALPMSCP01_070 ALPMTAA01_062
            ALPOPC01_070 ALPQMAN01_070 ALPRMS01_062
            ALPSCSI02_070 ALPSHAD05_070 ALPSYS01_070
            ALPSYS02_062 ALPSYS03_062 ALPSYS04_062
