5093.0. "6.0A = 6.1-1 = 6.1.1 ?" by ukvms3.uk.oracle.com::PJACKSON (Oracle UK Rdb Support) Mon Mar 03 1997 06:55

    I just found out that several UK customers who ordered 6.1A have been put
    on hold because the people who took their call couldn't find 6.1A on
    the system. This was not their fault as 6.1A does not appear on the
    system, but 6.1.1 does, which I assume is the same.

    Will this be the pattern for future MUPs?

    The part number for the CD kit for VAX and Alpha is A50625-01. It only
    appears when searching for VAX kits, to make things even trickier.

the clash of nomenclature between cultures.

6.1A = 6.1-1 (Rdb's way of showing a version, the -1 means the mup #/letter)
6.1A = 6.1.1 (Oracle's way of referencing a version)

The US client relations does not know what 6.1A or 6.1-1 means. If we
order a kit for a CT we have to say 6.1.1. Anytime you talk to some one
in Oracle outside of "Rdb", you HAVE to talk "Oracle", not the old Dec way.

Lucky you. Last I looked, I couldn't locate an Rdb anything number.

    The problem was with customers ordering kits. We told them to order
    6.1A, then they called customer relations and asked for 6.1A, and were
    told it wasn't on the system.

    Customer relations have handled 6.0A OK, so they could have handled
    6.1A, if it had been on the system as 6.1A.

    The name we use internally needs to be the same as the one we tell
    customers.

    	I wish we would lose the Digital way of referring to versions
    	for just this reason !
