5046.0. "RESTORE FIALED ON rdb V5.1" by nomahs::ESHIH () Wed Feb 19 1997 03:52

Hello All:

We have a customer whose environment is as below:

  VAX/VMS 6.2 and RDB 5.1 (without CDD)

They have encountered a very serious problem, that is , they can not
restore their database after backup, the customer told me they have
tried to backup/restore a small size database for testing, and it
worked ok, but when they tried to back/restore real databse whose
size is over 8GB, the opertion is always failed, the command and
  error message is as below:

  $RMU/BACKUP/online rdb_root:mxicdata mka500:mxdata

  $mount mka500:/for
  %MOUNT-I-WRITECLOK, volume is write locked
  %MOUNT-I-MOUNTED, MXDATA mounted on _mxic01$mka500:
  $rmu/restore/nocdd/log/options=diska0:[dba.schema]edb_opt.dat
      /dir=disk0:[dba.schema] mka500:mxdata.rbf
  %rmu-i-restxt_04, Thread 1 uses device mka500:
     .
     .
     .
     .
  %rmu-i-logressst, restored storage area disk1:[dba.wat]wat_lotsum.rda;1
  %system-f-roprand, reserved operand fault at PC=000CC548, PSL=03C00000
  %rmu-F-FATALERR, fatal error on RESTORE

Is there any bugs in RMU command in RDB V5.1? if so, where can
 I find the ECO kit?

 Thanks for any help.

 Best Regards

    Echo,

This problem is a very old one, I found :

    CLD Nr: MGO100211 Product:RDB/VMS Ver: 5.1 Platform:
    Priority: 2 Maintainer: GODFRIND
Abstract: RMU/RESTORE gives %SYSTEM-F-ROPRAND, reserved operand fault
    at PC=000CC548

You should try with the latest kit V5.1-11 or to upgrade .

Patches location as usual, see WRVMS::PATCH$$:[PATCH.RDB...]

5046.2can not find complete patch!!nomahs::ESHIHWed Feb 26 1997 20:3511
Hi Jean-Luc,

We have tried your suggestion in Notes #5046(Conference RDB_60).
After applying patch file, DECRDBSE1A051.A, we were asked to input
another patch file, DECRDBSE1A051.B. However, we can not find it
in WRVMS::PATCH$$:[PATCH.RDB.RDBV5111]. Can you tell us how to
locate it and the rest of patch files. Many thanks!

first from Rdb V5.1 you need to apply Rdb V5.1A then the patch found
in WRVMS. V5.1A savesets are on DEC CD-ROM 1994 or 95 I believe.

The patch in WRVMS looks good, the size suggests they don't need the
    .B saveset.

Anyway, this fix is not in the release_notes and may be not in V5.1-11
It would be more secure to update to a supported version.
